Reuters: Several traders said Chinese state-owned banks were buying dollars at various levels, suggesting they were not trying to defend the yuan at a certain level.
However, Tuesday's aggressive buying of dollars could cut the supply of the U.S. currency in the spot market in coming days, which may in turn influence the yuan's value
Avete capito?

Chinese Yuan FALLS The Most In Years
Imagine the global shock should a freely-floating yuan plummet in value against the U.S. dollar.
The People's Bank of China has emphasized that yuan reform doesn't mean the currency will necessarily appreciate,
even though the vast majority of people, including market consensus as shown by forwards, believe so.

After the initial surge post yuan-reform announcement, the yuan just dropped like a rock relatively speaking:
Bloomberg:
Yuan Falls Most Since December 2008

The yuan declined 0.2 percent to 6.8111 per dollar
as of 10:17 a.m. in Shanghai, from 6.7976 yesterday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade system.

That was the biggest loss since December 2008.
It strengthened as much as 0.1 percent to 6.79 earlier today.

...Yuan to rise about 3% against the dollar over the next 12 months, and appreciate by about 3% to 4% per year over the next three to four years. ...

Yuan moves won't be a one-way street
The Chinese yuan falls against the U.S. dollar to reverse some of its strong gains from the previous day, highlighting that the China unit’s moves won’t be all in one direction.
...
China’s yuan declined the most since December 2008 on speculation the central bank will encourage more two-way fluctuations in the exchange rate after it pledged to expand flexibility.

The People’s Bank of China set the reference rate for yuan trading 0.43 percent stronger, the biggest gain in five years, reflecting appreciation yesterday.

China’s reforms don’t necessarily mean the currency will appreciate, the official People’s Daily reported yesterday.

“There is bigger two-way fluctuation, which is quite normal,” said Lu Zhengwei, an economist at Industrial Bank Co. in Shanghai.

“The reference rate shows it is now based on market demand and supply, and no longer strictly controlled.”

ed ancora
“The announcement out of China elicited an emotional response from the market,” “A closer look at the announcement suggests China’s approach is very gradual and it is continuing at its own pace.
It’s a less dramatic move when looked at more closely...."
“The policy and what it ultimately means is an open question. It’s so vague.”

Dunque, CIRCO BARNUM a parte, calma e sangue freddo!
